Hi !!!
Apologies for not posting Fashion Fix Friday last week, but unfortunately I was helping with the preparations for an event; trying very hard to find a flat to my liking as I will be moving to Bristol in a few weeks and I have had no time to post.
BALMAIN SPRING 2014 READY TO WEAR COLLECTION
Furthermore, this weeks Fashion Fix is focused on Balmain's Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear collection. Since joining the label as Creative Director in 2011 Olivier Rousteing has created a subtle yet effective collection. I'm not saying it is boring but unusually you look at a collection and think..."that's nice but could I really wear that unless I'm a celebrity". However, with this collection by Balmain I could myself saying "I would wear that" or "I would wear that with...". Of course the impossible the price tag still remains, but it is a completely wearable collection for all and not just celebrities. In my opinion I think the collection combined the chic, sophisticated Parisian aesthetic with a slight Asian influence to create a fresh spring collection. The jackets reminded me of structured Kimonos with a silky gingham and dogtooth prints.
I also think his colour palette was perfectly selected for spring. The soft pale pinks, baby blues, ethereal whites and of course we can't forget that all time favourite...Monochrome. This light palette is what spring is all about, it gives you that fresh feeling of a clean slate and new beginning.

Not only did the collection cause a stir, but his use of gold chains. Whether is was in the form of an oversized cummerbund belt or detailing of the dresses itself; it added much needed glamour to to what would have been a plain collection without it. Another aspect of the collection that I really love is the overalls...yes belles the overall/dungarees trend is coming back. But don't fear it is not the oversized shapeless dungarees we used to wear as children *I am woman enough to admit I owned a pair lol*. Balmain has made the overall/dungarees trend sexy and fitted by using sleek black leather with gold detailing. Balmain also stayed true to the original denim dungarees/overall trend which can be seen on the likes of Nene Leakes and Zendaya Coleman, but added much needed glamour with heavy gold necklaces and stunning heels.
I found that the collection could was quite versatile as it targeted both the young and more a mature woman. At times the gingham prints and flouncy skirts added a girlish charm while the strong, fitted and structured silhouettes added sophistication.
Well in conclusion I think Olivier Rousteing has presented a fantastic collection that captures the essence of springtime in this relaxed ready to wear collection.
What do you think of the collection?
Hugs and Kisses
